The META Round: Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP Model

Our 17th round of #EllChat_BkClub is taking our book chat to a new level and we can't wait! We have an amazing team of ELL professionals who will each take the lead on one SIOP component as we read our way through Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners (MCC5).  The expertise, creativity, passion, and all around amazingness of this team is EPIC. I am so lucky to be partnering with each and every one of these wonderful people.

If you are new to #EllChat_BkClub, I recommend you check out this post, which has a video and info on how the chat works and how to participate. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Round 17.0 starts March 25th and will run for 8 weeks. Each week, we will focus on one chapter of MCC5 and one particular SIOP component along with the corresponding features. The reading schedule below shows the dates for each component and who the component leader will be. Make sure to follow all the leaders so you don't miss out on any of their tweets! Each leader will post questions for his/her week and will lead the discussion about that particular component.

Why are we SO excited about this round?

Here's why...

Rather than only focusing on MCC5, our goal is to foster connections between MCC5 and many of the other amazing texts we've read in the previous 16 rounds of #EllChat_BkClub. Over the course of 2+ years and 17 texts,  a lot of learning has taken place in our #PLN. Now, it's time to bring it all together using SIOP as the foundation on which we can apply much of what we've learned. Whether you are new to SIOP or a seasoned expert, #EllChat_BkClub 17.0 will be all about "book-smashing" in order to take your PD and your SIOPing to a whole new level with tons of ideas and practical strategies/tools for all of the components.

If you've been part of previous rounds and you've read some of the other texts, great! If not, no worries....our component leader team is here to make the connections clear and provide you with some specific ideas/suggestions for implementing each SIOP component. From Lesson Preparation to Review and Assessment, we've got you covered!

If you choose to respond to the weekly questions, please identify which one you’re responding to in your tweet (2A1, 2A2) Please note: The number before the Q indicates which week of the chat we are in, so 2A1 would indicate the answer to question 1 from week 2. Remember that you are not limited to these questions. Post a pic of your highlighted text, your favorite quotes, meaningful ideas, book snaps, your own questions, and connections to other texts!! #EllChat_BkClub is a slow chat, so you can post at any time throughout the week and throughout the chat.

For this chat, we will be using the following hashtags:
